Dunn, who rose from the Secretary of the interim CEO of the Global financial services firm Barclays investor, served on the Board of HP during the period of frenzy in the middle of the last decade, when former CEO Carly Fiorina was ousted and was replaced by Mark Hurd.

During that time, Dunn became involved in a scandal over the use of company’s pretexting to obtain phone records of reporters and others during the investigation the company boardroom leaks. He resigned from the Board of HP in 2006, although authorities later dropped the criminal charges brought against him in connection with the case of pretexting.

58-year-old Dunn had been battling breast cancer and was later diagnosed with ovarian cancer. He died Sunday morning at her home with her husband Orinda, banker William Jahnke, according to a statement from his family.

“Pattie Dunn worked tirelessly for the good of Our HP. saddened by the news of his death, and our thoughts go out to his family at their loss,” said HP spokesman.
